Tattoo ink is made up of two main components: pigments and carrier fluids.
1. Pigments (Color)
These are the substances that give the ink its color. They can come from a variety of sources:
Carbon black (for black ink)
Metallic salts (like iron oxide or titanium dioxide for red and white)
Organic compounds (such as azo dyes for bright colors)
Plastic-based pigments (used for vibrant, long-lasting colors)
2. Carrier Fluids
These are liquids that help evenly distribute the pigment and prevent contamination. Common carriers include:
Distilled water
Glycerin
Alcohol (like ethanol or isopropyl alcohol)
Propylene glycol
Witch hazel
3. Other Additives
Some inks may also contain:
Preservatives
Binding agents
Thickeners or stabilizers
